Transnational organised crime poses a serious threat to peace, governance and development. It is on the rise globally, including across Africa. Not only does it pose an obstacle to reducing poverty, it also distorts local economies and undermines development efforts.
Independent journalists and the media are critical to holding governments to account and mobilising civil society. To help journalists in Africa meet this challenge, the ENACT project, in partnership with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, is hosting a five-day training workshop.
This intensive course takes place in Kampala, Uganda from Monday 22 January to Friday 26 January 2018, and will build the capacity of journalists to report on this issue – improving knowledge and skills, and also developing story ideas.
We are seeking applicants who focus on transnational organised crime reporting with a maximum of five years’ experience, or journalists with more experience, but who have not covered this topic before and who have a marked interest in starting to cover the issue.
