In memoriam

Bidding farewell to a close friend and expert.

Pretoria, South Africa – The ISS is sad to announce the untimely passing of an esteemed partner and colleague, Lt Col Ravindran Puckiry (Dan) Vandayar. Dan was an officer of long-standing in the South African Police Service (SAPS) and a world-renowned explosives expert who enjoyed an illustrious career. Well-known for his warmth and dedication to serving his community, Dan displayed unyielding passion and understanding of CBRNE, bomb disposal, explosives management and investigations.

A staunch advocate for crime prevention, Dan participated in many of ISS’ international capacity-building workshops, where he presented and shared his vast experience with participants from across Africa. His assistance to ENACT researchers working on crime prevention and arms was invaluable. Colleagues will miss his expertise in a complex and often scarcely-skilled field.

The ISS would like to convey its heartfelt condolences to Dan’s family, friends and his colleagues at the International Bomb Data Center Working Group.

Dan was laid to rest on 19 September 2021.
