Drug trafficking / Bad pharma: medicine trafficking in West Africa

This seminar launches new research on the illicit trade in medical products, focusing on Burkina Faso and Guinea.

West Africa has become a hotspot for medicine trafficking. Smuggled products make up between 20% and 60% of the formal market across the region, and up to 80% in Burkina Faso and Guinea.

Although the role of criminal organisations in medicine trafficking is well known, the operations of these illicit economic networks in West Africa is less clear. Despite the enormous scale and profitability of the illegal medical products market, and its devastating impact on communities, the issue is vastly underreported.

Simultaneous interpretation in English, French and Portuguese will be provided.
