High-level meeting of police chiefs from Central and West Africa

Enhanced collaboration will help to mitigate the effects of organised crime on peace, security and development.

On 13 and 14 June 2018, a high-level meeting of chiefs of police on strengthening cooperation against transnational organised crime in West and Central Africa will take place in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. The meeting is co-organised by the ENACT project at the Institute for Security Studies; the Secretariat of the Central African Police Chiefs Committee (CAPCCO); and the government of the Republic of Congo. The event includes input from INTERPOL.

This high-level meeting will bring together chiefs of police from 24 nations, which are members of CAPCCO and the West African Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO) and Mauritania. It forms part of ongoing efforts in the regions to contain the growing threat of transnational organised crime.

The meeting aims to foster cooperation on policy, strategies and operational responses to transnational organised crime. It is also intended to eliminate barriers that impede effective cross-border policing.

It is expected that at the end of the meeting, the chiefs of police will reach understanding on a practical mechanism to strengthen the day-to-day operational collaboration among police institutions to curb organised crime and mitigate its impact on peace, security, governance and development.
