Maritime / View on Africa: is piracy back?

Responses to the latest incidents should encompass other maritime security threats as well.

Three reported incidents of piracy off Somalia’s coast in recent weeks have prompted concerns about the return of piracy and armed robbery at sea. But is piracy really back? And if so, how will it impact Africa’s fight against other maritime security threats like trafficking and illegal fishing?

This View on Africa briefing is presented by Timothy Walker, Researcher, ISS Pretoria. He will discuss the need for holistic responses to maritime security threats and how Africa can deal with piracy in the long term.
